Memorial Day cemetery events in Southern California symbolize more than just the unofficial start of summer; it is a profound day of reflection within our community. For the team at Bayer Cemetery Brokers, this day is deeply personal – especially this year, as we approach the historic 250th anniversary of the United States, a milestone that adds a unique layer of gratitude to every flag placed and every name spoken in our local memorial parks.
We aren’t just observers of these traditions; we are part of them. Our staff includes veterans who have worn the uniform, and across our office, we have family members who have served in every branch of the United States Armed Forces. When we walk through Southern California’s local memorial parks, we are looking at the names of our brothers, sisters, parents, and comrades. While our professional role is in the brokerage of cemetery property, our personal ties to the military community give us a sincere appreciation for the weight of these traditions and the immense debt of gratitude we owe to all who have served our Nation.
Where to Honor Our Veterans This Year at Southern California Memorial Day Cemetery Events
If you are planning to pay your respects, several of Southern California’s most iconic parks are hosting formal observances. Here is where you can join the community in remembrance:
Join a Community Observance at Forest Lawn on Monday, May 25, 2026

Forest Lawn is well-known for the large scale of their patriotic remembrance events. Admission and parking are free.

We hope to see you there in mutual support and remembrance. For those attending, specific locations like Glendale and Covina Hills will be also offering free souvenir lapel pins and frozen treats to guests.
Rose Hills: A Century of Tradition at Southern California’s Largest Cemetery
At Bayer Cemetery Brokers, we have a profound respect for the legacy of Rose Hills. As one of the most expansive memorial parks in the world, the sheer coordination required to honor our veterans here is a testament to the importance of the day. Since the park was founded in 1914, it has been hosting these tributes almost since its inception, making it one of the oldest continuous Memorial Day traditions in Southern California. That longevity is a huge part of why the park is so respected; it has weathered every major conflict of the last hundred years alongside the families of Whittier and Los Angeles.

104th Annual Memorial Day Observance
The 2026 observance at Rose Hills continues this century-long tradition at the SkyRose Chapel (3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier) on Monday, May 25.
- 10:30 AM: Family & Remembrance Activities
- Wall of Heroes: A new addition for 2026, featuring a community display of local veterans.
- Military Exhibits: Featuring a military band, vintage vehicles, and a special display from the Whittier Museum.
- 11:00 AM: Main Military Program
- Vintage Plane Flyover: A stirring aerial tribute by Show Boss Productions.
- Keynote Address: Formal honors and remembrance ceremony.
- Special Tribute: Celebrating America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

A Note on Participation: The Memorial Day weekend of remembrance actually begins early for Southern California cemeteries. On Friday, May 22, volunteers and staff will place over 10,000 flags on veterans’ graves across the park. For us, seeing these thousands of flags is a powerful visual reminder of the importance of attention to detail – the enduring honor and meticulously maintained legacy that these properties represent.
Remembrance by the Coast: Green Hills Memorial Park
The team at Bayer Cemetery Brokers always looks forward to the observance at Green Hills Memorial Park. Perched above Rancho Palos Verdes, this spectacular park provides a breathtaking setting that matches the solemnity and scale of their Memorial Day tributes. We deeply appreciate the commitment Green Hills shows to our military community; their service is widely considered one of the most comprehensive and moving in the South Bay.

Other Local Observances & Community Events at area cemeteries
Beyond the major Southern California cemetery event programs at Rose Hills, Forest Lawn, and Green Hills Memorial Parks, many other cemeteries also host moving tributes. We highly recommend checking the events within your local area; many places provide the perfect setting for personal reflection.
- Westlake Village – Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park: We encourage our local community to attend the 35th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The band concert begins at 10:30 AM, with the formal program at 11:00 AM. This service is a neighborhood staple, known for its moving “Avenue of Flags” and vintage flyovers.
- Newport Beach / Corona del Mar – Pacific View Mortuary & Memorial Park: Located in the beautiful Corona del Mar area, Pacific View is hosting its Annual Memorial Day Service from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. It is a premier location to honor our veterans against the backdrop of the Pacific coastline.
If you are visiting a Southern California Memorial Day cemetery event not listed here, we recommend calling the office directly. Most area memorial parks maintain special holiday visitation hours. Floral placement rules ensure the grounds remain a pristine environment for all families during this significant weekend.
Please note: These Memorial Day services are hosted by the respective memorial parks as a service to our community. Bayer Cemetery Brokers provides this guide as a courtesy to help our friends and clients honor our Veterans and to participate in local events of remembrance.
